I recently took part in a bipartisan conversation, which was hosted by the University of Illinois Institute on Government and Public Affairs about the Illinois pension system. As you may know, the state’s pension systems are the worst funded in the nation. On average they're funded at 38%, well below national averages.

Illinois’ unfunded pension liabilities stand at more than $80 billion and already consume a significant portion of the state budget. As we move forward, state leaders have to act to reform the pension systems before they drain away even more fiscal resources from education, public safety and infrastructure.
