Our job as government officials is to set priorities and make sure the state’s basic needs are met. We must also take care not to increase the financial pressure on the citizens and businesses that pay the taxes that fund so many state programs. Many of our financial woes are due to a decrease in state employment and an increase in people needing state services. Our solution must focus on job growth.
Illinois has much to offer. We need to begin promoting those advantages to encourage population growth and business investment in the great Land of Lincoln. We need to invest in educating our children, in our infrastructure and transportation system, in our healthcare, and in public safety.
We need to rethink our approach and provide a government that works for the people not the politicians. Robbing Peter to pay Paul, or in this case taking money from charitable funds to pay the state’s bills, is not the way to do it.
