HB 208, which would make pumpkin pie the official pie of Illinois, unanimously passed the Senate today. The bill originated with Representative Keith Sommer(R-Morton). Senator Bill Brady(R-Bloomington) sponsored identical legislation in the Senate after it nearly unanimously passed the House of Representatives.
Senator Brady said,"Illinois is the national leader in pumpkin production. Additionally, Representative Summer and I both represent Morton, which is the Pumpkin Capital of the World. This legislation honors a long tradition of pumpkin production in both Morton and the state of Illinois as a whole."
The legislation now heads to Governor Rauner's desk for approval.
